First Day Hikes Jan. 1: A nationwide initiative encourages everyone to get out and hike, snowshoe or cross country to start off 2012. Eleven Colorado state parks offer naturalist-guided hikes and other activities throughout the day. Events are free with a daily or annual Colorado State Parks pass. Participating parks include Barr Lake, Castlewood Canyon, Chatfield , Cherry Creek, Cheyenne Mountain, Eldorado Canyon, Eleven Mile, Lory, Mueller, Roxborough and Stagecoach.
