Gateway Canyons Resort’s bright red helicopter which was recently purchased for air tours, will be placed into special duty this Saturday as a custom ride for Santa.
The resort in the tiny town of Gateway in western Mesa County is going to fly a Santa Claus in the copter to the resort accompanied by two children from the Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado kids’ program.
All other children are invited to witness his 11 a.m. landing at the resort and to receive free gifts from Santa. The kids will also be treated to free lunches at the Paradox Grill (if they are with a paying adult) and free tours of the Gateway Canyons car museum.
The day will be rounded out with free hot chocolate and cookie decorating from 11 to 2 p.m.
Santa’s helicopter is a recent addition to the resort owned by Discovery Communications founder and chairman John Hendricks. The resort is undergoing a $20 million refurbishing that will include flying guests to ski and golf outings in nearby towns in the helicopter.
