LAS VEGAS—A online auction has begun for the website domain name of a Las Vegas firm that owes money to a man who won a judgment against it in a federal newspaper copyright infringement lawsuit.

The Las Vegas Sun reports ( ) that the righthaven.com domain name auction started Monday and ends Jan. 6.

A judge authorized a receiver to auction the intellectual property of Las Vegas-based Righthaven LLC to cover part of Righthaven’s $63,720 debt to Wayne Hoehn.

Righthaven lost a lawsuit over Hoehn’s unauthorized post on a sports betting website message board of a column by former Las Vegas Review-Journal Publisher Sherman Frederick.

The case is one of 275 lawsuits Righthaven filed since March 2010 under copyrights assigned by the Review-Journal and the Denver Post.
