The Boulder City Council will hold a public hearing on the city manager’s proposal to close parks and open-space properties to loiterers and campers overnight, officials announced Tuesday.
City Manager Jane Brautigam said the council’s agenda committee — which consists of Mayor Matt Appelbaum, Deputy Mayor Lisa Morzel and Councilman Macon Cowles — decided to make Brautigam’s proposal an official discussion item during the council’s Jan. 3 meeting.
That means an unlimited number of people from the public can sign up to talk to the council and Brautigam about her proposal to close parks from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. to address safety concerns and health risks related to encampments.
The proposal comes as the Occupy Boulder movement recently moved its tents near the Municipal Building.
