The Larimer Humane Society announced today that a pair of animals found skinned near Berthoud were coyotes, not dogs.
The society said in a news release that the animals had been identified in necropsies performed by Colorado State University experts.
It is legal to shoot a coyote and take its pelt during permitted times, the agency said.
“Stomach contents consistent of a diet similar to coyotes, including deer, mice and other rodents, helped Colorado State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories veterinarians and their wildlife pathologist determine the animals’ type,” the release said.
