The Denver-Aurora-Broomfield area registered an unemployment rate of 7.9 percent in November (not seasonally adjusted), the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said today.
Nationally, the unemployment rate was 8.2 percent in November, not seasonally adjusted, and 8.6 percent seasonally adjusted.
Total nonfarm employment (not seasonally adjusted) in the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield metro area stood at 1,210,800 in November 2011, up 9,800 jobs (0.8 percent) over the year.
Nationally, nonfarm employment rose 1.2 percent from one year ago.
On a not-seasonally-adjusted basis, three of 10 industry supersectors in the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield area added more than 3,500 jobs from November 2010 to November 2011.
Employment in professional and business services continued to expand with a gain of 9,800 – the largest over-the-year increase among the 10 supersectors.
Trade, transportation, and utilities which added 5,700 jobs, and education and heath services (which added 3,700 jobs), continued to add jobs over the year.
In contrast, two of 10 industry supersectors lost 2,500 more more jobs over-the year.
The government sector shed 4,100 jobs and employment in financial activities declined by 2,500 since November 2010.
Seasonally adjusted, total nonfarm employment in the metro area was up 2,500 from October 2011 to November 2011.
