Organizers of the Denver Jewish Film Festival found out this week that they can’t go home again. At least not yet.
The radical remodel and expansion of the former Shwayder Theatre, now the Elaine Wolf Theatre, at 350 S. Dahlia St. will not be completed by Feb. 23, the start of the 16th installment of the 11-day event.
Festival director Roberta Bloom and festival chair Sharon Haber pushed back this year’s opening to gain wiggle room. Even so, they now can attest to what every homeowner knows: The best laid plans don’t always win out over construction delays.
This is the second year the fest won’t have its home theater. In 2011, it held screenings at the AMC multiplex in the Cherry Creek shopping center. Bloom feels confident that they are nearing an agreement on a new venue but haven’t yet dotted the i’s.
Remodeled with New York’s old moviehouses in mind, the Wolf Theatre is slated to open March 24 with a performance by the Grammy-garnering quartet, the Manhattan Transfer.
