DENVER—Colorado communities are still shelling out big bucks to lobby members of Congress, even though the federal government is cutting back on local grants.
Denver spends up to $200,000 a year on federal lobbying, Aurora up to $150,000 a year and Colorado Springs Utilities about $250,000 a year.
According to the Denver Post ( ), smaller towns including Fort Collins and Pueblo have spent thousands of dollars to make their case for federal funding. Many communities argue the funding is needed to complete projects that have already started.
