FORT COLLINS, Colo.—A group of Fort Collins residents opposing construction of a new on-campus football stadium for Colorado State University wants the university to take a deep breath before taking any action.
The opposition group is holding a forum on Jan. 25, claiming the university is creating a crisis to justify a new stadium.
According to the Fort Collins Coloradoan ( ), the university wants to dump the 32,500-seat Hughes Stadium in favor of an on-campus stadium.
President Tony Frank argues will help energize and engage students, alumni and Fort Collins residents. Athletic Director Jack Graham wants to see it built in time for the 2014 football season.
Frank and other university officials say a successful athletics program will increase CSU’s visibility and reputation.
