LAKEWOOD, Colo.—Lakewood police say eight to 10 students are being treated after pepper spray was released on a school bus.
Police spokesman Steve Davis said early information was that the discharge Wednesday afternoon was accidental.
John McDonald of Jeffco Public Schools says it appears a student may have been horsing around with the spray and may not have intentionally aimed it at anyone.
Sallie Woodward told KMGH-TV in Denver that her grandson released the spray after a female student said she had pepper spray in her purse. Woodward said her grandson didn’t believe it was really pepper spray and sprayed it.
The bus returned to Carmody Middle School, where medical and law-enforcement personnel were on the scene to tend to affected students.
