A 13-year-old student is facing attempted first-degree arson charges setting off a minor explosion inside a boys restroom at Northglenn Middle School this morning.
He was not named because he is a juvenile, and the device has not been identified.
“No definitive determination has been made on what type of device was used to cause the minor explosion,” Thornton police stated this afternoon.
No one was injured when the blast occurred at 8:40 a.m. at the school at 1300 Muriel Drive in Northglenn.
“As a precaution, students and staff were immediately evacuated from the building until members of North Metro Fire Rescue and Northglenn Police Department determined the building was safe for re-entry,” police stated.
Students were allowed to return at about 10 a.m.
