Police arrested a man suspected of burglarizing a Littleton home on Wednesday, after officers followed footprints in the snow for more than half a mile.

Officers were called to the home on the 2400 block of W. Sunset Drive, shortly after the homeowner reported the burglary, according to a news release from the Littleton Police Department.

The homeowner showed officers a strange set of footprints that led up to the house.

Shortly after, a nearby witness told officers that a stranger approached him carrying a black and red snow shovel and offered to shovel the witness’ sidewalk.

Officers continued to follow the footprints, which led them through several backyards.

After following the footprints for more than half a mile, officers spotted a man who matched the witness’ description.

Police arrested 28-year-old Leandro John Gonzales. The homeowner’s property was returned and Gonzales was booked into the Arapahoe County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

He faces charges of second-degree burglary, theft and criminal possession of a financial device.
