A man apparently in his 20s drove onto Buckley Air Force base tonight while running from Aurora police. He eventually lost control of his Toyota sedan and rolled into a fence at about 8 p.m.

The driver was not hurt. His name has not been released, but he faces multiple felonies, said Sgt. Cassidee Carlson, a spokeswoman for the Aurora Police Department.

The role of drugs or alcohol is being investigated, she said.

The incident began at about 7:30 p.m. when the Toyota allegedly was involved in a hit-and-run crash at South Buckley Road and East Alameda Parkway.

Police tried to pull the man over about 2 miles away, but he sped away. Officers chose not the chase, because the man was driving erratically, Carlson said.

They caught up to him driving in circles in a field north of Buckley Air Force Base.

“He was off-roading,” Carlson said.

He then drove onto the base, and the Buckley security joined in the pursuit, before the man crashed.

The man surrendered peacefully, Carlson said.
