A diabetic man accused of using his insulin to drug and rape a Boulder woman he met at a bar made his first appearance in Boulder County district court Thursday morning.

Frederick Lawrence Allen, 31, who goes by the name Rick, was indicted by a grand jury on charges of sexual assault, first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault and tampering with evidence.

Allen made no comment as attorney McComas told Judge Thomas Mulvahill he intends to ask for a lower bond.

Allen is being held in the Boulder County Jail on $100,000 bond. A hearing on the bond is set for Feb. 2.
