LARAMIE — The Colorado State Rams are off to a 2-0 start in Mountain West play for just the third time. If they want to improve to 3-0 for the first time since the formation of the conference in 1999-2000, they’ll have to do it in Wyoming’s “Dome of Doom.”
Not only does today’s 4 p.m. game at the Arena-Auditorium present a potential stumbling block for the Rams, it marks the 216th meeting between the “Border War” rivals. The Cowboys lead the series that began during the 1910-11 season 128-85.
The Rams (13-4, 2-0) enter the game riding an eight-game win streak, the program’s longest since a nine-game stretch in 2006-07.
The Cowboys (15-3, 1-1) are nearly as hot, having won four of their past five games since a 57-46 loss at Denver on Dec. 19.
During CSU’s winning streak, junior guards Dorian Green and Wes Eikmeier have provided the Rams’ 1-2 scoring punch. Green, averaging 17.0 points per game, leads the Rams, while Eikmeier has poured in an average of 16.8 points since CSU’s Dec. 19 victory over Texas Southern sparked the team’s hot streak.
The contest will feature an intriguing matchup: The Rams lead the Mountain West in 3-point percentage (.437), while the Cowboys have held opponents to a league-low 29.7 percent from long range.
