Cloudy skies and wet roads will welcome afternoon commuters after a dusting of snow fell on the metro area this afternoon.

A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for northeastern and north central Colorado, according to the National Weather Service.

Wet, light snow flakes started to fall mid-morning, but moved out of Denver before 2 p.m. Skies are mostly cloudy in Denver and the high temperature reached the low 40s.

On Wednesday temperatures will climb to around 57 degrees.

Light snowfall is expected to continued through most of the day in the high mountain valleys and a couple of inches could fall in the foothills and along the Front Range.

A hazardous weather outlook has also been issued for western Colorado. In the southern mountains, 1 to 4 inches of snow could fall before noon.

Temperatures in most mountain areas peaked in the low 30s.

Sunny skies will return to the region on Wednesday, but temperatures will remain cold with a high near 36 degrees .
