Loveland High School diver Michal Bower and Yale University standout rower Taylor Ritzel will join the Sportswomen of Colorado Hall of Fame.

The organization announced the nominees this week along with 45 athletes and coaches to be honored March 11. Bower and Ritzel will be inducted that day, along with the naming of the sportswoman of the year.

The Denver Post erroneously reported in Tuesday’s paper that Annie Kunz had been named sportswoman of the year. Kunz won the all-around award.

Report: Smith to coach Stevenage. Gary Smith, who coached the Rapids to the 2010 MLS Cup title before being fired after last season, will be named the new coach at Stevenage FC in England, the London Daily Mail reported. Stevenage plays in England’s League One, the third tier of British soccer.

Assault charges vs. Berglund dismissed. The assault charges levied against former Kansas quarterback Brock Berglund were dismissed without prejudice Tuesday. Berglund, a 2010 Valor Christian graduate, was cut by the Jayhawks and new coach Charlie Weis before the spring semester for missing a mandatory meeting. But Kansas refused to release Berglund, preventing the freshman from transferring.

The charges of third-degree assault had hung over his head for nearly the entirety of 2011. Their dismissal puts to bed what had been a whirlwind for Berglund, the former Valor Christian quarterback who led the school to two state championships.

“Huge weight lifted,””Berglund said. “The beginning of 2012 has been a lot better than the whole year of 2011.”

Berglund said he will continue to push for his release from Kansas in a hearing at 8 a.m. Friday.
