STERLING, Colo.—Authorities say a mother accused of first-degree murder in the slaying of her 3-year-old son told her ex-boyfriend that her son was “with God.”

According to an affidavit, paramedics told investigators on Sunday that 24-year-old Juanita Kinzie told them her son, Caleb Pacheco, was dead.

The body was found Sunday at a home in Sterling after people, including her boyfriend, repeatedly told authorities the child was missing.

According to KMGH-TV ( ), a relative begged social services to check on her nephew’s welfare at least a dozen times last year.

The Logan County social services department did not return phone messages on Wednesday for a response.

Kinzie was advised of the charges on Monday and ordered held without bond. A second hearing was set for Feb. 8.
