GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.—The Glenwood Springs City Council is considering adding a $1 fare to rides on the Ride Glenwood city bus system starting in April.
Children under age 5 who ride with an adult would ride for free. The City Council may also consider discount passes and allowing senior citizens and students to reboard for free within a certain time after paying their fares.
The system has been free to riders since 2005.
The Post Independent reports () Mayor Matt Steckler said that even if $1 fares are added, taxpayers would subsidize about 80 percent of the $1 million annual cost of running the bus service.
City staffers say continuing the in-city bus system hinges on finding revenue to supplement the existing dedicated sales tax and federal grants that support it.
