Denver police are looking for the driver in a hit-and-run collision early Saturday at South Federal Boulevard and West Alameda Avenue in which two people were seriously injured.

Preliminary investigation shows that shortly after 12:30 a.m. a red or maroon Mercury Mountaineer SUV was traveling south on South Federal Boulevard at a high rate of speed and struck the rear end of a Dodge Neon that also was traveling south.

Police said the impact caused the Neon driver to lose control and travel into the northbound lanes where it was struck by a white van traveling north.

The Mercury Mountaineer fled the scene driving south on South Federal Boulevard.

The suspect vehicle is a red 1997 Mercury Mountaineer with a rear Colorado license plate 011-XWH. Police said the vehicle should have extensive front-end damage and the passenger side headlight should be out.

Traffic investigators have not been able to contact the registered owner of the suspect vehicle.
