GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.—Volunteers are rounding up thousands of stray cats in Garfield County so they can be spayed and neutered.

A coalition of cat lovers says there are about 9,000 feral cats in the county that are being captured and taken to veterinary clinics for basic health care. The cats are then released them back on the streets or put up for adoption after the tip off the cat’s left ear is clipped to show it no longer needs surgical intervention.

According to the Glenwood Springs Post Independent ( ), the animals are a nuisance because they raid trash dumps and garbage, and some municipal animal control departments are refusing to work with the coalition.
