DENVER—House lawmakers unanimously approved a measure to direct colleges to create a system for awarding credit to students for prior work and military experience.
Supporters of the bill approved Tuesday say the goal is to reduce costs on students by allowing them to graduate faster.
Some state colleges already have systems for awarding college credit for prior learning experiences and Republican bill sponsor Rep. Tom Massey says the bill would give higher education institutions flexibility in deciding what can qualify for credit.
The bill will now be voted on in the Senate, where it has bipartisan support.
