A 79-year-old woman injured in a hit-and-run accident on Feb. 11 died tonight, family members told 9News.
Carmen Gallegos and her husband, Max, 75, were driving home from playing bingo when their car was struck at 12:38 a.m. at South Federal Boulevard and West Alameda Avenue .
Max Gallegos continues to recover.
Police said Jesus Obeth Armenta sped away in his Mercury Mountaineer after rear-ending the Gallegos’ Dodge Neon, which caused them collide with a van.
Armenta was arrested when his SUV was found about a mile away, at West Second Avenue and Federal Boulevard.
He remains in the Denver jail on $50,000 bond, facing felony hit-and-run and vehicular assault charges.
Armenta was sentenced to a year of probation in July 2010 on misdemeanor assault and disturbing the peace charges,
