The Colorado Court of Appeals on Friday blocked the release of skinhead Jeremiah Barnum, convicted last year of the murder of African immigrant Oumar Dia and the attempted murder of bystander Jeannie VanVelkinburgh.
Subsequently, Denver District Judge Edward Simons threw out the verdicts and granted Barnum’s request for a new trial.
Simons also granted Barnum bail of $500,000.
But the Denver district attorney’s office, which is appealing Simons’ dismissal of the guilty verdicts, asked the appeals court to stop Barnum’s potential release.
In a 2-1 vote, the court Friday threw out Simons’ order granting bail to Barnum.
