LONGMONT — — The owner of Longmont’s newest restaurant, The Petra Mediterranean Restaurant, brings a background as diverse as sand and snow.
Born in the Middle East and of Arabic descent, Abe Hammad first came to the United States in the late 1970s to attend Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
He worked for McDonald’s for nine years, starting in Houston. Then the company transferred him back to familiar territory.
“I opened up the first McDonald’s in Saudi Arabia and I worked with the Saudis for about a year and a half,” Hammad said recently in the dining room of his new restaurant, which opened last week.
