Guests at a hotel in Greenwood Village are being allowed back into their rooms this afternoon, after the hotel was partially evacuated earlier when a suspicious liquid was found in a room.

The incident happened at a La Quinta Inn hotel, 9009 E. Arapahoe Road, said Andy Lyon, a South Metro Fire Rescue spokesman.

The liquid was discovered earlier today when guests checking into a room saw it dripping down a wall and called staff. A hotel worker checked it out and some of the liquid dripped onto her arm and she reported a “burning sensation,” Lyon said.

The bottle containing the liquid was in an out-of-the-way, unusual place in the room, Lyon said.

It’s not clear how long the bottle may have been there.

As a precaution, the room was sealed off and some adjoining rooms were evacuated.

The Arapaho County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad and the south metro’s hazardous materials team were called in and the liquid has been removed from the room to be further analyzed.

“We are still trying to determine what exactly it is,” Lyon said. “The incident is winding down, we are letting guests back in.”

The hotel worker who reported the burning sensation washed the liquid off of her arm and has not experienced any further difficulties.
