Boulder police today urged residents to lock their doors to stop making it easy on burglars.

Police released the sketch of man who entered an unlocked door to home near the University of Colorado, was discovered when a woman awoke and found him in her bedroom, then allegedly left with a laptop computer and jewelry.

“Boulder police are investigating a number of burglaries in which residents have left their homes unlocked,” the agency said in a media release. “Police remind residents to lock their doors, even if they’re only going to be gone for a little while. It’s also a good idea to keep curtains closed, so that prospective thieves can’t see into the home.”

Police also recommended residents buy a program that tracks a lost or stolen computer by GPS.

Today the agency released details from the Feb. 26 burglary in the 1200 block of College Avenue.

When the woman awoke and asked the intruder what he was doing in her bedroom, he replied that “one of her roommates had told him he could stay there because he had been drinking,” police stated.

That was not true.

The man was described as black, in his early 20s, about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and 160 pounds with a medium build.

He was clean-shaven.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward.
