GEORGETOWN, Colo.—The lawyer for a man charged with fatally shooting a man and wounding three others at a Vail bar in 2009 says this is a case about mental illness.
Richard “Rossi” Moreau is on trial on charges including first-degree murder in connection with the shootings.
The Vail Daily reports ( ) that in opening arguments Tuesday, public defender Reed Owens didn’t dispute that Moreau fired his weapon but described Moreau as a victim of the Vietnam War and the mental illness that resulted from it.
Prosecutors showed jurors surveillance videos that captured images of the shootings, which killed Gary Kitching, of Carbondale. Kitching’s widow, Lani Kitching, was among witnesses who testified Tuesday.
