DENVER—A Philadelphia man has been charged in connection with a Colorado terrorism case.

The U.S. attorney for Colorado said Bakhtiyor Jumaev (BACH’-i-tor HEW’-em-ev) was arrested Thursday in Philadelphia. He’s accused of sending money to an Uzbek refugee from Colorado, Jamshid Muhtorov (MOO’-tah-rev). Federal prosecutors say the funds were intended for a terrorist organization, the Islamic Jihad Union.

Muhtorov, of Aurora, Colo., was arrested in January in Chicago. He’s accused of planning to travel overseas to fight for the group.

Muhtorov denies that. His lawyer says Muhtorov signed onto the group’s website and engaged with those operating it to learn more about what was happening in his home country, and was headed to the region to visit family.

Jumaev made an initial appearance in Philadelphia. It’s not clear whether he has a lawyer.
