DENVER—Two Denver police officers who were fired and then reinstated are getting their jobs back at least temporarily while the city appeals.

The Denver Post reported Monday ( ) the city’s attempt to keep officers Kevin Devine and Ricky Nixon off the job failed because officials missed a deadline to file for a stay in their reinstatement.

Devine and Nixon were fired in 2011 on allegations of deception and inappropriate force. The Denver Civil Service Commission ordered them reinstated in January, saying the officers didn’t intend to deceive or hide the truth. The commission also noted that witness accounts were imprecise.

The city has appealed the reinstatement.
