BRIGHTON, Colo.—A man accused of shooting his ex-wife in the head at her suburban Denver workplace has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.
A jury convicted 72-year-old Richard Stewart on Thursday of first-degree murder in the death of 71-year old Norma Dee Stewart.
A judge sentenced him Friday, after hearing a prosecutor call Stewart’s acts “cruel, remorseless and selfish.”
Prosecutors say Richard Stewart went to the office of Edward Jones Financial on the morning of April 4 and shot his former wife. She had divorced him after he was arrested in 2008 on allegations of domestic violence.
Witnesses testified that Stewart had made threats against his former wife and her family since the divorce.
