Interstate 25 will be closed in both directions near downtown Denver tonight and Sunday night for the demolition of the 15th Street bridge.

At 7 p.m., one lane of both northbound and southbound I-25 will close between Interstate 70 and Speer Boulevard, with the second lane closing at 9 p.m., according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

All lanes will close at 11 p.m. The interstate will reopen by 10 a.m. Sunday. In addition, 15th Street over I-25 will be closed from 11 p.m. until 10 a.m. Sunday.

Sunday, one lane of both northbound and southbound I-25 will close between I-70 and Speer Boulevard at 7 p.m. A second lane will close in both directions at 9 p.m.

All lanes will close at 11 p.m. and reopen by 5:30 a.m. Monday.

Also, 15th Street will be closed over I-25 from 11 p.m. Sunday until 5:30 a.m. Monday.

Major delays are likely and drivers should try and take alternate routes.

Traffic on southbound I-25 will exit onto westbound I-70 to Federal Boulevard and travel south to Speer Boulevard. From there drivers will go south on Speer Boulevard and back to Interstate 25.

Drivers traveling on northbound I-25 will exit onto northbound Speer Boulevard and travel to Federal Boulevard. Traffic will then go north to I-70, travel east on I-70 and back to I-25.

Eastbound traffic on 15th Street will be detoured onto Zuni Street to Speer Boulevard. Westbound drivers will be detoured on to Wewatta Street to Speer Boulevard.
