DENVER—Continued warm, dry weather combined with expected strong winds has raised the fire danger around much of Colorado.
Red flag warnings were in effect along Colorado’s Front Range, all of the Eastern Plains as well as lower elevations in western Colorado on Monday.
Blowing dust could also be a problem in western, eastern and southern Colorado though the dust isn’t expected to be as severe along the Front Range.
Several locations in western Colorado broke high temperature records on Sunday. Grand Junction hit 79 degrees, beating the record of 75 set in 1940. The high in Steamboat Springs on Sunday was 69, beating the 1989 record by eight degrees.
The dry spell is expected to last through Saturday, despite light showers predicted in high mountain areas Monday evening.
