DENVER—Warm, dry weather combined with strong winds has raised the fire danger around much of Colorado.
Red flag warnings were in effect along Colorado’s Front Range, the Eastern Plains and lower elevations in western Colorado on Monday.
Authorities say remnants of a controlled burn from last week has flared into a 5-acre wildfire in Jefferson County southwest of Denver. No evacuations are planned.
Several locations in western Colorado broke high temperature records on Sunday. Grand Junction hit 79 degrees, beating the record of 75 set in 1940. The high in Steamboat Springs on Sunday was 69, beating the 1989 record by eight degrees.
The dry spell is expected to last through Saturday, despite light showers predicted in high mountain areas Monday evening.
