DENVER—The Colorado unemployment rate is holding steady at 7.8 percent.

The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment said Friday that the jobless rate for February was unchanged from January but down from 8.6 percent in February 2011.

Labor department officials say Colorado has gained about 48,800 nonfarm payroll jobs over the last year, with the gains coming from the private sector. The largest gains were in the professional and business services sector; leisure and hospitality; and education and health services.

The national unemployment rate for February was 8.3 percent, down from 9 percent in February 2011.
