EAGLE, Colo.—More Colorado counties are restricting fires following a dry March.
Earlier this week, Arapahoe, Boulder and Jefferson counties and Denver’s mountain parks implemented fire restrictions following the outbreak of a wildfire that has damaged 25 homes in Jefferson County.
On Friday, Jefferson County said it’s now temporarily banning anything with an open flame in unincorporated parts of the county, including federal land, with limited exceptions.
Meanwhile Eagle County sheriff Joe Hoy announced Friday that all open burn permits that have been issued will be suspended indefinitely starting at midnight. Fireworks or other explosive devices will also be banned.
Douglas County issued fire restrictions Friday for unincorporated areas, including national forest property. Open burns, fireworks and even charcoal grills and patio fire pits are prohibited. Violators will be fined $600.
