Denver’s district attorney’s office has formally charged a 41-year-old man in connection with the murder of Billy Newson, 29 — and within a few blocks from each other.
in the early morning hours of March 18 near the intersection of Colfax Avenue and Pearl Street.
Anthony Escobedo, 41, is being charged with one count of first degree murder.
Escobedo was arrested last week and has remained in custody without bond.
Court records show that in August 2009 Escobedo plead guilty in Denver District Court to assault/drugging victim, after he was originally charged with assault with a deadly weapon. He was sentenced to four years of supervised probation and given credit for 55 days of time served.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday to be advised of the charges.
