One Coloradan won $1 million and a second won $250,000 by matching five numbers in the Mega Millions lottery, authorities say.
The two won differing fortunes because one bought a so-called “megaplier.” The other did not.
Names of the winners were not released by Colorado Lottery officials.
The $1 million winner bought a ticket at the 7-Eleven at 4040 E. 8th Ave. in Denver and the $250,000 winner bought a ticket at the 7-Eleven at 6802 S. Yosemite St. in Centennial.
Colorado lottery players typically buy $500,000 in Mega Millions lottery tickets a week.
But with the at stake, Colorado residents bought 20 times that amount or $10 million in tickets since Sunday.
Three lottery tickets sold in , lottery officials said Saturday. The winning numbers were: 2, 4, 23, 38, 46, with a mega number of 23.
Each winning ticket was expected to be worth more than $213 million before taxes. The odds of winning the jackpot were one in 175,711,536.
The state will receive a portion of the money spent in Colorado on lottery tickets.
Retailers also receive a 7 percent commission on Mega Millions sales.
