A state lawmaker said Monday she won’t seek a late bill banning the use of mobile devices while driving, but said the by a driver who might have been on his cellphone shows a ban is needed.
Rep. Claire Levy, D-Boulder, would need the permission of Speaker Frank McNulty to introduce a late bill and she doubts that would happen. McNulty, R-Highlands Ranch, was the chief critic of her 2009 bill that

“It seems we’re picking out one distraction because it’s politically expedient to do so,” he said, at the time.
The cellphone portion was removed from Levy’s bill, which did ban text-messaging while driving.
Thornton police seized the cellphone of Michael J. Grennan, 33, Saturday after an accident on East 168th Avenue where two pedestrians were killed and a teen-age boy seriously injured. , although police haven’t determined yet what caused the crash.
