A flow of moisture from New Mexico will collide with a cold front and bring snow across the south Front Range foothills into eastern Colorado tonight, the National Weather Service said.
A winter weather advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday for parts of Grand, Boulder, Gilpin, Clear Creek, Summit, Park, Jefferson and Douglas counties.
Snow could be heavy overnight, with up to 10 inches possible in the foothills and south of the metro area by midday Tuesday, with most of the snow falling east of the Continental Divide. Only scattered snow showers are expected to the west.
Travel to the west of the metro region could be icy and slow Tuesday morning, forecasters said.
A winter storm warning is in effect for central and eastern Douglas, as well as Elbert County, from midnight to 6 p.m.
Snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 inches could be driven by winds up to 30 mph, limiting visibility, the National Weather Service warned.
Denver should sidestep most of the storm.
The city could see 1 to 3 inches with a high of 43 degrees Tuesday, nearly 40 degrees colder than Sunday’s high of 84 degrees.
Denver should rebound to a high of 66 degrees on Wednesday, 73 on Thursday and 71 Friday, according to the forecast.
