A suspect has been arrested in the shooting death of a homeless man who was living in a tent with his wife.

The shooting happened Sunday night in a dirt lot at 404 Main Street, Brighton in according to the Adams County Coroner’s Office.

The suspect, Lon Jones, 54, was taken into custody at about 7:15 p.m., the sheriff’s office said in a media release.

He is being held on suspicion of second degree murder.

The victim, who has not been identified pending notification of family, was taken to Denver Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators have interviewed several witnesses, the sheriff’s office said.
