Strong winds, low humidity and parched soils will raise the chance of fire dangers for wide sections of Colorado today.
The National Weather Service has issued a “red flag” fire warning for most of the Eastern Plains and parts of the central mountains of Colorado.
The warning runs from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. and the zone includes Limon, Castle Rock and Fairplay.
“Any fires that start may spread quickly and be difficult to control,” the weather service warns.
Meanwhile, a red flag wind warning will also be posted for the northern Front Range foothills and the adjacent plains. Denver, Fort Collins, Greeley and Fort Morgan are in the wind warning zone today, where the weather service expects gusts up to 50 mph. The wind warning also runs from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.
In Denver, skies will be mostly sunny today and the high temperature will rise to about 70 degrees, the weather service reports. Winds in the city could hit 33 mph.
Winds should calm down over the weekend in Denver. Saturday should be sunny with a high near 61 degrees, and Sunday should be sunny with a high near 70.
