COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—About 70 soldiers with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team are now home after nearly a year of training Afghan soldiers and police in southwest Afghanistan.
Some soldiers helped train Afghan troops, while others served as mentors at the Afghan National Police Provincial Training Center.
The Gazette reports ( ) that at a homecoming ceremony Friday at Fort Carson, officers thanked the troops for their service while offering prayers for soldiers who won’t return. Six of the 2nd Brigade’s soldiers died during the deployment.
More than 3,000 2nd Brigade soldiers still in Afghanistan are scheduled to return to Fort Carson beginning in late April.
