DENVER—Police don’t believe drugs or alcohol played a role in an accident that killed a former soldier out for a jog in Denver.

Forty-five-year-old Michael A. Sanders died Sunday. Police said Monday that the initial investigation shows that the driver of a sport utility vehicle lost control, ran over Sanders and then slammed into a house and pinned a resident. The resident suffered minor injuries.

According to KMGH-TV (), Sanders had just moved to Denver after getting out of the Army and was going to school to become a nurse.

Denver police said the case will be handed over to the district attorney, who will decide whether charges should be filed.
