An out-of-control sport utility vehicle on
Sunday morning killed a jogger, ripped across
the lawn of a church, smashed through a fence
and into a Denver house pinning the resident
against the refrigerator in the kitchen.

Witnesses said the vehicle was traveling at a
high rate of speed along the south side of the
Hampden Avenue frontage road, according to
Denver police.

The vehicle hit and killed a jogger, later identified
by the coroner as Michael A. Sanders.

The SUV drove across the lawn of the LifeSource Adventist Fellowship church at 6200W.
Hampden Ave. and through a backyard fence,
where it smashed into the house at 3545 S. Harlan
St., pinning a resident between the vehicle
and a refrigerator.

The driver and the resident were both taken to
a hospital and treated for minor injuries, police
said.

Bill Sorensen, a neighbor, said a woman who lives next door “came to our house screaming.”

Sorensen went into the home to help round up
some pets. “I went into the kitchen, and I saw the
car sitting there,” he said.

“We are looking at all the possibilities,” said police
spokesman Sonny Jackson. “You’ve got a very
disturbing scene for an Easter Sunday.”
