United Airlines, the largest carrier in Denver, will discontinue service between Denver and Oakland, Calif., on June 3. Airline officials say the 11 weekly flights aren’t financially viable, although federal figures show they are 86 percent full.
United will contact those who have booked flights after June 3 to rebook them through San Jose or San Francisco or for refunds. Service between Denver and Oakland is still provided by Southwest Airlines.
In traffic statistics released Tuesday, United reported that it reduced domestic capacity 3.7 percent in March compared with the same month last year while boosting international capacity 2.4 percent.
Domestic revenues were down 2.3 percent in March from March 2011, while international revenues were up 4.8 percent.
Consolidated revenues were up 1 percent, while capacity was down 1.1 percent. Ann Schrader, The Denver Post
