CASTLE ROCK — The Castle Rock Town Council has unanimously decided not to pursue the possibility of purchasing the Plum Creek Golf and Country Club, leading some residents to worry about the future of the course.

According to an agenda memo from , the financial status of the course and lender is complicated and confusing and that owner Stacey Hart had made it clear the course will be turned over to the bank or sold very soon.

Castle Rock Mayor Paul Donahue said a group of owners approached the town about purchasing the club.

“There is a question of whether it is the town’s responsibility to run a golf course, much less two, and the private sector does a much better job running these type of things than a municipality,” Donahue said. The town already owns and operates The Meadows neighborhood.
