DENVER—Authorities say a man from Gabon (ga-BOHN) has died in while in the custody of U.S. immigration officials in Colorado.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement says 46-year-old Evalin-Ali Mandza died Thursday at a suburban Denver hospital, where he was taken after complaining of chest pains.
Immigration spokesman Carl Rusnok says a coroner will determine the cause of death.
Rusnok says Mandza entered the U.S. in 1996 on a visitor visa, which is usually valid for a matter of months.
ICE detained him in October after he was released from a Colorado jail. Rusnok did not know why Mandza had been jailed but said it wasn’t a violent crime.
Rusnok says Gabon officials have been notified.
ICE says Mandza is the seventh detainee to die in its custody since Oct. 1.
