DURANGO, Colo.—Authorities say a 5-year-old girl who died at her grandmother’s house in Hermosa suffered an accidental overdose from two over-the-counter medications.
La Plata County Coroner Carol Huser says Kimber Michelle Brown had almost 2 1/2 times the upper limit of dextromethorphan, a drug found in cough and cold suppressants. The girl also had above therapeutic levels of Cetirizine, another drug used to treat colds or allergy symptoms.
Kimber died Feb. 12 after her grandmother had been treating her for flulike symptoms. The Durango Herald ( ) reports the District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case to determine if criminal charges should be filed.
