LONGMONT, Colo.—Authorities are investigating the death of a 49-year-old transient man whose body was found in a former salvage yard in Longmont earlier this week.

Police Cmdr. Jeff Satur tells the Longmont Times-Call ( ) that Carl Newsom’s body was found Wednesday afternoon near the Boulder County Fairgrounds. It initially appeared that Newsom suffered a heart attack, but Satur says an autopsy revealed unexplained injuries. He declined to elaborate.

David Trevarton, who owns the land, says he allowed Newsom to stay on the property and that his body was found by another man who was working there.
